Annual Contests to keep in mind
There are several contests we can and should enter every year.

The National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC) holds an annual contest focused on censorship.
the deadline is usually near the end of October.

Courageous Persuaders
The mission is to create a 30 second PSA that will get the message to middle school students that drinking is a bad idea. The deadline is typically early February.

Meijer Great Choices
There are several categories to work with on this project.

International Youth Silent Film Festival
A challenge to young film makers to create a silent film using a provided soundtrack. The deadline is typically January or February.

NATAS - Michigan Chapter (Student Emmys) Pillar of Excellence awards

MAB - Michigan Association of Broadcasters - MAB has contests for both radio and television at the high school level. There are several categories again and the deadline is usually near mid-December.

The Academy of Scholastic Broadcasting - The ASB Storytelling Award
This contest is FREE, nice. They are looking for news stories and features that have great audio and video.
Simple entry and again FREE.
Plus they have a contest for each semester. Two times a year to enter.

Semester 1: Mid December
Semester 2: Mid April

DIGITAL ARTS, FILM & TELEVISION (DAFT) is a non-profit media-arts educational organization. THEIR primary mission is to promote media literacy through the creative use of film and video. DAFT has been providing services to its members and the state of Michigan since 1969.
Michigan Student Film & Video Festival
DAFT provides support for emerging media artists and actively develops student involvement in media arts and studies through the annual statewide film festival,The Michigan Student Film & Video Festival, scholarships and special workshops.
Deadline is typically March 1st.

A panel of judges, comprised of industry professionals, will determine the winner of each category. All winning filmmakers will be flown to New York City to see their film screened in front of a live audience.
